The Ashe County Ore Knob mine has been infamous for years, the scene of a dumped bodies nearly 30 years ago—and now is in the news again as neighbors are to be updated today by the EPA cleanup and about the status of the dam on the property.
Neighbors to the Laurel Springs area mine property about four miles east of town are being told about groundwater tests and the planned cleanup of soils, surface water and sediment. Just when and where the meeting is was not included in the release. The mine operated from the 1850’s to 1962, and has been on the EPA national list of hazardous sites for years.
