 The Watauga High soccer team will open post-season play at home on Wednesday night.
The Pioneers, under the leadership of first-year coach Woody McKay, will play Charlotte Vance, the No.4 seed from the I-Meck Conference, Wednesday at Jack Groce Stadium. The match begins at 6 pm. The Pioneers, the No.1 seed from the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference, were 8-7-4 this season. Alexander Central, the No.2 seed from the NW3A/4A, will entertain Garinger (which eliminated WHS from the state playoffs last season) in the opening round down in Taylorsville. In Class 3A, Hickory, the No.1 overall seed from the NW3A/4A, takes on Lawndale Burns at home Wednesday night; Hibriten, the No.2 seed overall, takes on Tuscola down in Lenior, Fred T. Foard, the No.3 seed among the Class 3A schools, travels to Patton. Second-round games will be played on Saturday. If WHS advances, the Pioneers would play the winner of T.C. Roberson or Independence at Jack Groce Stadium. |
