Strong storms—probably several tornadoes—raced through the Lincoln-Catawba-Iredell corridor at dark last night, causing some 11 injuries and destroying a number of homes.
Some schools in the area are being used for shelters, some are closed or delayed. Of the injuries, WSOC-TV is reporting one life-threatening injury. The rural Vale area was hit hardest, but storms raked towns through Catawba and into the Lake Norman area. Trees were reportedly downed in Wilkes as storms passed through—some roads blocked, but little other damage was reported. That same path is still being hit by morning storms and more are predicted for later today. |
