![]() To no one's surprise, the Appalachian State Mountaineers are sitting atop the college football world. The Mountaineers (4-0 overall; 2-0 in the Southern Conference), off to their best start in four years, are the new No.1 team in The Sports Network/Fathead.co, FCS Top 26 College Football Poll. The Apps, who received 101 firs-place votes, replace Villanova, which lost ot William & Mary on Saturday. The Wildcats (3-2 overall, 1-1 in the Colonial Athletic Associaton) fall to No.6 this week.Delaware, which defeated James Madison 13-10 on Saturday, Jacksonville State, William & Mary and Stephen F. Austin round out the top five. Delaware received 29 first-place votes; Jacksonville State received 12 and SFA received one. Villanova, James Madison, UMass, South Carolina State and Montana State round out the top ten. Georgia Southern, which plays Wofford this week, is 16th, Elon is 19th and Wofford is 21st. The Terriers, who were among teams receiving votes last week, are in the Top 25 for the first time this season. ASU takes on Elon at Kidd Brewer Stadium on Satuday.
