UPDATED:WHS Women Finish Third at Wendy's PDF Print

The Watauga High women's cross country team turned in a strong performance on Saturday at the Wendy's Invitational at McAlpine Park in Charlotte.

The WHS had three runners in the top 15 and finished third against a very talented field that included such powerhouse programs like Chapel Hill, T.C. Roberson, Mount Tabor and Myers Park.
Darby Middlebrook paced WHS with a second place finish. She ran the three-mile course in 18:24. Hannah Barbour was sixth (18:40) and Madison Harman was 11th (18:47). The Pioneers finished with 159 points, and the Pioneers finished well in front of the above mentioned teams.
Chapel Hill finished fourth (194), TCR was fifth (218), Mount Tabor was sixth (259) and Myers Park was eighth (288). Bishop O'Connell of Virgina bested the field with 139 points; Ardrey Kell was second with 150. Individually, Kaitlyn Kramer of Ardrey Kell bested the field in 18:03.
On the men's side,  WHS finished 15th with a team score of 369. Chapel Hill won the Invitational with 39 points. Blake Williams of Northern Durham bested the field in 15:25. WHS did not have a runner finish in the top 15. Daniel Osborne was Watauga's top finisher, he was 25th.

Sam Littlejohn was 39th in the boys junior-senior race; Ingrid Forsyth was 37th in the girls race; Noah Allain was 72nd in the boys freshman-sophomore race; Dustin Hickernell was 73rd; Celia Jackson was ninth in the  girls race. She covered the course in 21:43.
