WHS Volleyball Splits Tri-Match PDF Print

The Watauga High volleyball team earned a split in its tri-match on Saturday afternoon at Lentz-Eggers Gym.

The Pioneers (17-3) defeated McDowell 3-1 (25-19, 25-12, 16-25, 25-11) before they dropped a five-game decision to Chapel Hill (21-25,  26-24, 18-25, 25-20, 11-15). Bailey Hagaman had another superb day. The senior, who was honored as player of the week by MaxPreps.com on September 20, had 84 assists ten digs and six aces in the two matches combined. She had 38 against McDowell, and she added 46 more in the loss to Chapel Hill.
Brooke Rhoades had a solid game on the front line. The sophomore transfer from Avery county, had 22 kills and 12 blocks; colby Combs chipped in with 30 kills, 10 aces and six blocks.
"We played very well,' said WHS coach Kris Hagaman. "We had our chances, but Chapel Hill is an excellent team. "But we challenged them. I can't complain."
Channing Hagaman had 24 kills and three blocks on the day; Skylar Hicks had 46 digs. The Pioneers take on South Caldwell at home Tuesday night as they begin second-half play in the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference. WHS (6-0 in league play) begins second-half play in first place. The Pioneers play Hibriten on Thursday.
