The Avery High Vikings bounced back from their only loss of the season by pounding Thomas Jefferson Academy 58-20 in a Western Highlands 1A/2A Conference game Friday night at MacDonald Stadium in Newland.

The Vikings (5-1 overall; 1-1 in the WHC) were led by quarterback Dustin Childress, who turned in a career performance. The senior playing for the injuried Alex Villanueva completed 15-26 passes for 261 yards and five touchdowns.
Taylor Potter was his favorite target, hauling in five balls for 152 yards and a pair of scores. Pre-season All-State wide receiver Andy Gonzalez caught four passes, two of those for touchdowns.
The Vikings grabbed a commanding 20-6 first-quarter lead and coasted home. The Vikings entertain Hendersonville next Friday night.
