An off-duty Watauga Sheriff’s Department deputy was hurt as his motorcycle was struck at the intersection of the 105 Extension and Blowing Rock Road.  The 6pm accident occurred as a Chevrolet truck lost its brakes and struck the motorcycle William Mast was riding, the impact pushing the cycle into the vehicle in front of him.

The catalyst of the accident--failed brakes on a Chevy Silverado--was driven by Tony Isaacs and the motorcycle was pushed into a Toyota minivan driven by Daniel McAulay.Mast  was taken to Watauga Medical Center with an injured back, but others in the accident were uninjured. Isaacs was cited for failure to reduce speed.
