A moped accident last night in Wilkesboro became the second fatality in five days involving one of the small motorcycles in the stretch of US 421 as another Wilkes teen’s life was taken. Last night’s collision occurred in front of the Yamaha dealership just west of Wilkesboro when a west-bound 2001 Kia struck the rear of the west-bound moped, throwing the driver from the cycle onto the roadway.
Wilkesboro and Miller’s Creek Fire Departments, rescue and paramedics all converged on the scene and immediately called for air ambulance, and Baptist Air Care was in the air in moments, meeting the ambulance at Wilkes Regional Medical Center, but 17-year old Dakota Lee Hendrix of Ferguson was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The state patrol said that the driver of the Kia, Thomas Allen Nevens, of Wilkesboro, failed to reduce speed, causing the accident. Nevens nor either of his two passengers were reported as hurt in the accident. Meanwhile, Wilkesboro Police are still seeking Patricia Kilby Mash, 50, and Passenger Billy Wade Mash, both of North Wilkesboro for Felony Hit and Run in the Friday night incident that killed 18-year old Victor Manuel Rogue-Cabrena. |
