The North Wilkesboro couple said to be responsible for the death of a Wilkes teen Friday night are being sought by area law enforcement, and Wilkesboro Police think they’re hiding out. Two vehicles struck a moped Friday night in Wilkesboro—and a third finally struck and killed the teen-aged passenger while the first vehicle fled the scene.
The 9:45 p.m. sequence of wrecks occurred on U.S. Highway 421 east between N.C. Highway 16/18 and Brushy Mountain Road. In that, a 1996 Nissan pickup traveling east on 421 approaching the exit to Brushy Mountain Road collided with the moped. Both the driver and passengers were thrown off the moped and Nissan fled the scene heading east on U.S. Highway 421. Moments later, a 2007 Ford Pickup, also traveling east struck the moped lying in the road with no one on it, then the third collision occurred when an east-bound 2003 Dodge Durango—in spite of the driver’s attempt to miss him—struck the passenger of the moped, lying injured in the roadway. As a result of the collisions, the moped passenger Victor Manuel Rogue, 18, was fatally injured and the driver of the moped Francisco Martinez, 17, was injured and transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was treated for minor injuries and was released. Warrants have been issued for the Driver of the Nissan, Patricia Kilby Mash, 50, and Passenger Billy Wade Mash, both of North Wilkesboro for Felony Hit and Run. Billy Mash was already wanted for failure to appear in court.
