Two four-wheeler accidents occurred within a short time frame Friday afternoon and evening—one fatal.  Blowing Rock Rescue and Watauga Medics were called to the scene of the fatal accident on Sampson Road, the 6:30pm mishap due to the driver of the four-wheeler losing control, running off the road and overturning.  The State Patrol identified the victim as 55-year old Robert Dudley Townsend of Laurel Fork Church Road.

Trooper Searcy said that Townsend was traveling too fast for the four-wheeler on the paved road and ran off to the right.  He pulled the vehicle back onto the road, where it overturned, throwing him off. With no helmet, Townsend suffered a severe head injury, and died after being airlifted to the Johnson City Medical Center by WINGS.

A four-wheeler flipped late Friday afternoon and injured the driver in an off-road accident near Blowing Rock in Caldwell County.  Rescue and paramedics rushed to the scene beyond the end of Richlands Road to a private riding range, where the young man was found injured.  Injuries in this case were determined to be more minor, and the man, said to be in his 20’s, was taken by car to Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
