A.C. Reynolds High School, which won the Class 4A state championship last fall, has forfeited its season-opening win against West Forsyth.

The North Carolina High School Association has announced that the Rockets, who defeated Harnett Central for the Class 4A title last season, had an ineligible player in the line-up in its season opener against the Titans. Que Tucker, deputy commissioner of the NCHSAA, made the announcement this morning.
The player, who was not identified, apparently had started for Asheville High School in 2006. State bylaws allow athletes to be eligible for athletics for four years or eight semesters, beginning on the first day an athlete is enrolled in high school. Also, the rules state that if a players dresses for a game, then they have participated whether he steps on the playing field or not.
The Rockets (0-1), who play Black Mountain Owen Friday night, are expected to appeal the NCHSAA ruling. The Rockets entertain Watauga on September 17.
NOTES: West Forsyth is led by former WHS coach Adrian Snow.
