The North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association has named its 2010 All-State team.
There were only three regional players on the squad. Leading the way was Luke Gragg of West Wilkes, who was named First Team All-State. Gragg helped the Blackhawks win their first state championship in school history. West Wilkes, led by former Watauga High player and assistant coach Ben Wellborn, captured the Class 1A State Championship by knocking off Dixon. Gragg batted .667 with 13 doubles and 48 runs-batted-in. Pitcher Tyler Barnette of Hickory, who was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the Major League draft, was a second-team selection. He was 8-2 with a save and a 1.41 earned-run-average. In 71 innings of work, he struck out 100 men. Offensively, he batted .311 with seven home runs. Phillip Treadway of A.C. Reynolds was also a second-team selection. He belted a school record 15 home runs (breaking the school record of 12 set by current Rockets coach Bryan Craig in 1988) and drove in 32 runs. He batted .489. Tyler Bumgarner of South Caldwell was named Honorable Mention. Drew Reynolds of East Rutherford was named the Player of the Year, Brian Hightower of East Rowan was named the Coach of the Year, Tuc Fisher of Chapel Hill was named the Comeback Player of the Year. Fisher returned from a broken ankle earlier in the year, became one of the top pitchers in the eastern part of the state and led his team to the East Regional finals before they lost to Wilson Hunt. *************************************************************
