Hyatt named CPL All-Star PDF Print

Rising sophomore Nate Hyatt of the Appalachian State University baseball team has been named an to the National All-Star team in the Coastal Plain Collegiate Summer Baseball League. Hyatt, who is playing for the Forest City Owls, is 2-1 with a 1.32 earned-run-average. He's made six appearances, including four starts. In 27 1/3 innings of work, Hyatt has given up just four earned runs, he's walked nine and he has 29 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .188 against him.
During his freshman year at ASU, Hyatt made 20 appearances and started five games. He was 2-3 with a 4.99 ERA. In 48 1/3 innings of work, Hyatt, a native of Brevard, NC, gave up 27 earned runs, walked 27 men and he struck out 51.
The CPL All-Star game will be played Monday, July 19 and Tuesday, July 20 in Forest City. ASU teammate Ryan Arrowood, who was the Co-Defensive Player of the Year and an all-star last season, is also a member of the Owls. Arrowood, who was 10-0 with a 1.88 ERA last summer, has been just as impressive this season, despite a 2-3 record.
Arrowood has a 1.97 ERA, and he's only given up nine earned runs in 42 2/3 innings. He's also struck out 46 men and walked only ten. Opponents are only hitting .197 against him this summer. Arrowood, who was not selected for the all-star game this season, defeated Gastonia on Wednesday night.
He went six innings, gave up an earned run and he scattered three hits.
At ASU this past season, Arrowood won eight games, but he coughed up 57 earned runs in 69-plus innings of work. He also served up 14 home-run balls.
