Ski Slopes Prepare to Open with an Eye on Weekend Warm Front

As of this morning every ski resort in the Southeastern United States is still closed, but the chilly temperatures the last few days have the three area ski resorts pumping tons of manufactured snow onto their slopes.

A spokesperson at Appalachian Ski Mountain said depending on how high the temperature climbs this weekend, they could open in the next few days. App Ski Mountain has been using their new snowmaking equipment, which we were told can produce 40 million pounds of snow per day.

Beech Mountain officials are also working on building a thick snow base. A spokesperson at Beech told High Country Radio they have been making snow since early yesterday and will reevaluate later today when they believe they may be able to open.

A representative from Sugar Mountain Ski Resort told High Country Radio they were scheduled to open their slopes this morning, but because of our Indian summer conditions earlier this week, they have only been able to open their ice skating rink.

As of this morning, weather officials at the National Weather Service expect temperatures to climb to near 60 degrees over the weekend. If temperatures to reach tat high, it will set back snowmaking capabilities on all the area ski resorts.

Gunther the Hun is open for business again! What a wonderful day for the high country.

Starting today, an inch is a foot, forty degrees is freezing, mud and rocks is a great base, the customer is NEVER right and a couple of hamburgers cost more than an all day lift ticket in Colorado.

Sugar Mountain ought to change it's name to Sh!t Hill.

Sugar Mountain is a blight on our community.

plumb hollar hit the nail on the head take from the locals and don't give anything back, travel a few hours to wv for at least a taste of real sking and real hospitality
