Written by Adam Hicks

The Conover man whose wife and children were killed at their home eight months ago plead guilty yesterday to drug charges.

Our Foothills Bureau reports Brian Tzeo was sentenced to six months suspended probation and ordered to pay court costs for his involvement in an opium ring.

Tzeo was charged with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver a controlled substance, maintaining a dwelling to manufacture a controlled substance, and conspiracy to possess opium with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver.

Tzeo now lives in Alexander County and will serve his probation there.

That is so crazy! His family dies because of his involvement and he gets 6 months probation!! Maybe they thought he suffered enough but I don't!!

Once again, our fearless "reporters" get things wrong.

While Adam, in his original version of this story, says only that "Brian Tzeo was sentenced to six months suspended probation and ordered to pay court costs for his involvement in an opium ring," that's not all that happened.

Tzeo, who was investigated by the U.S. Attorney's Office and found to be undeserving of federal charges, was handed a six-to-eight month suspended sentence, along with six months of intensive probation, meaning he will be under house arrest from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. daily, and he will receive daily supervision visits. He was also given 48 hours of community service and 24 months (after the initial six) of supervised probation.

When gauging the appropriateness of public ire here, there appear to be many extenuating circumstances, not the least of which being the fact that no law enforcement agency was able to find evidence tying Tzeo to the murder of his family. We also have yet to hear what his wife's involvement in the ring amounted to (i.e. Was SHE the boss and he merely the unwitting dupe?). And, if one keeps up with news outlets that actually do their homework, they know that both local and federal authorities have been nothing short of thrilled with the level of cooperation that Tzeo has provided since his initial arrest.

Were I to guess, I'd say the guy probably spewed out some very useful info to the feds that pointed them to a couple high level folks. And that would mean we shouldn't be surprised if he, at some point soon, lands either in witness protection or in a shallow grave. So the salivating hang 'im crowd may still get to rub their hands in glee.
