harlan_keith_hamby.jpg Avery County authorities arrested 50-year-old Harlan Keith Hamby on drug and firearm charges on Friday.

According to Avery County Sheriff, Kevin Frye, the Avery Municipal and Avery Drug Task Force served a search warrant on Hamby’s residence and found about a pound of marijuana, two firearms, and over $3,000 in cash.

Frye explained that Hamby is a convicted felon and cannot legally possess a firearm.

Hamby was also charged with the sell and delivery of prescription medication from a previous undercover purchase from his residence.

It probably depends on whether or not he actually committed a crime that can be proved in court, whether or not his criminal history can be used against him, whether or not he's shown to be a person who cares at all about holding down a real job and earning an honest living, and whether or not a jury of his "peers" agrees that convicted felons, even white ones named Harlan, are no longer worthy of rights granted by the Second Amendment.

Hey, the guy lives in Avery County, INDEED. So he has more than a fighting chance.
