With Halloween behind us, it’s time to start thinking about Christmas. Boone-based worldwide relief organization Samaritan’s Purse has their yearly Operation Christmas Child campaign in full swing with several drop-off locations around the area.
Operation Christmas Child asks residents to pack shoeboxes with Christmas gifts. These shoeboxes will then be distributed to children in more than 130 countries who are suffering form natural disaster, war, terrorism, disease, famine, and poverty.
Last year, Samaritan’s Purse officials said the Boone area contributed over 84,400 shoeboxes and local organizers hope to collect over 85,000 this year.
Shoeboxes can be dropped off at the Boone Processing Center at Samaritan’s Purse’s headquarters on Bamboo Road, Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Banner Elk, Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church in Jefferson, Lower Creek Baptist Church in Lenoir, and Specialty Car Company in North Wilkesboro.
More information about how to get involved with Operation Christmas Child can be found at www.SamaritansPurse.org.
