Tom Wright officially became the new Athletics Director at Watauga High at the stroke of midnight on Halloween, Saturday, October 31.
Wright replaces Jeff Link, who was named an assistant principle at the school when David Kincaid stepped down in September for personal reasons. Wright, who has coached various sports at the high school, was also an assistant principle for one year.
He is currently the wide receivers coach with the WHS football team and he was the women’s basketball coach at WHS from 1995-96 to 2000-01, He complied 89 wins and a final four appearance in 1996-97.
Wright, was a physical education teacher at WHS. He has been replaced by Dustin Kerley, who was hired this week. Kerley played high school baseball at Alexander Central, and played his college baseball at Division II Mars Hill College in the South Atlantic Conference. He was also the JV baseball coach at A.C. Reynolds.
Kerley will be Watauga's JV baseball coach this spring.
