State authorities said they found nearly 1,000 gallons of moonshine under a shed in Wilkesboro.

According to the Associated Press, the 929 gallons are believed to have belonged to 63-year-old Roger Lee Nance, of Wilkesboro.  Nance was arrested on Wednesday on possession of non-tax-paid liquor for the purpose of selling.

Agency director John Ledford told the A.P. that Wednesday’s discovery is one of the biggest mountain busts he can remember.

Although authorities were able to find the moonshine and large amounts of sugar, which is used in moonshine production, the still was not found.

N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement agents, N.C. Highway Patrol, and the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office all helped in the investigation.

If you are going to round to the nearest hundred, it should be 900 gallons not 1000.

Why do the cops worry about a little liquor when they drove by 20 meth labs on the way to this bust. They are selling the stuff to grade school kids these days. There's no justice anymore!

Who gets to do the taste test? Do they have to test every jar?
ridgerunner | 10/12/2009 5:37PM

Could be because the jars in the back had plums in them. The second case up had peaches in it. Top box looks like lemon. Notice they are in heat shrink boxes?

Yep - got most of JJ's observations. I suppose PC Crumpler kept 3 for himself by the time the Democrat got the story.

Jimmy Fallon mentioned this case in his monologue, saying that "the man was charged with five cases of being a 1930's hobo."

Does this mean no more organic free trade liquor??
I am sooo bummed!
lawnboy Registered | 10/13/2009 7:45AM
It's a good thing this was found before I jumped off the wagon. If you want to know why we have a drinking age you should see a bunch of teenagers on this stuff.

To lawnboy's point - when they confiscate the homemade goods, the legal alcohol industry is doing a pretty good job targeting the youth market - starting with Mike's Hard Lemonade and every flavor you can concoct for distilled spirits: how about a straight shot of lemon-lime Stoli. Doesn't enven taste like vodka. Problem is the youth don't know when to stop and you still have freshmen dying at the universities. Of course, you know who doesn't want people to make the homemade goods: the corporate alcohol machine itself: ROTGUT, INC., yessir!

The corporate alcohol machine. That's what the Kennedy's called it? I thought that was me and my old pals black and red.

I would be happy to convert one of my cars to run on this. That way I could deliver party propaganda with out the need for party paid gasoline reimbursements.

Aslong as there making it to sell make up some kind of licens law besides gashaul. They aught to leava people alone who make it on there own property and are making it for there own use. But what ever. The government is gonna just keep the stink going lol
