Foxx challenger kicks off campaign Print E-mail
Monday, November 05 2007

roy_carter_officially_launches_campaign_for_congress.jpg North Wilkes High School Coach Roy Carter kicked off his campaign Saturday in Winston Salem.

According to campaign spokesman Miranda Burgin, friends, family, former student athletes and prominent community members made their way to the Forsyth County Democratic Headquarters for the event.

Carter outlined his priorities: excellence in education, economic development and affordable healthcare. He then went on to tell his supporters he’s making ending the war in Iraq a priority.

Carter, an Ashe County native, will be running against incumbent Republican Representative Virginia Foxx, a woman he’s openly criticized. After Foxx’s telephone town hall last week, Carter pointed out the lack of opposing viewpoints in selected phone calls. He accused his opponent of screening her calls, saying she “refused to answer the hard questions and provide honest answers.” Carter says he called in before the first question and was still not allowed to speak.

The fifth district encompasses 12 counties, including Ashe, Watauga and Wilkes. For more information about Carter’s campaign visit www.RoyCarterforCongress.com.

i hate it when people from the appalachian area use logos or signage with non-appalachian mountains. The appalachian mountains are rounded and flowing, the rocky mountains are rigid and have sharper lines. roy's mountains are pointy, im not voting for him
seriously. Unregistered | 11/06/2007 11:20PM
amen. pointy mountains in a logo are way more important than the issues or integrity or values. oh, wait... maybe that's how we got stuck with foxx in the first place. good grief. i hope that other readers and voters aren't as near sighted.

Virginia Foxx is a "statesman" and we are fortunate to have her represent us. I'd rather fight the Islam extremist in Iraq than here in the USA. Pull out of there & Afganistan and we'll be dealing with more than one 9/11 sooner than you think.
I'll never vote for a Democrat because I don't want to see more and more babies aborted. Life is sacred.[smiley=sad]
