Bluegrass & Barbecue to Aid Blowing Rock Man

Blowing Rock, NC resident, Robin Coffey, was in an accident on August 30th, 2012.  He fell approximately 25’ from a roof, sustaining a skull fracture, broken cheek bones, a broken rib, and shattered wrist.  He was airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center, where he stayed until September 7. "Honor Card" Fund Raiser Starts Wednesday

William Mangum, North Carolina’s Artist, will visit the High Country on November 14th to kickoff of his signature philanthropic initiative – The Honor Card. WHS Playmakers in Play-Offs

The Watauga High School Pioneer Playmakers received nine awards and were selected to advance to the State High School Play Festival on the strength of their original production of the one- act play “schuld” last weekend at the high school.  The Pioneer Playmakers production is one of just 18 chosen Full Story

 
Navy Jazz Ensemble to Play at WHS

The “Commodores”, the United States Navy Band’s jazz ensemble from Washington, D.C. will present a free concert at the Watauga High School Auditorium on Tuesday, November 13 at 7:30 pm.  Sponsored by the Hayes School of Music and Watauga High School Band, this concert features Full Story

 
Snow Punkins

Alecia Aldridge submitted her orange snow punkins, "I made this snowman today, in the shape of a pumpkin, since tomorrow is Halloween." Aldridge said the people in the photo are Dutin Aldridge, and her son Parker Aldridge--and that no snowballs--nor pumpkins--were harmed in her art. Full Story

 
Mabel School Remembers Deputy Mast

Mabel School honored one of its own Wednesday as the school remembered William Mast Jr., a deputy in the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office who was killed in the line of duty last July.   The school dedicated a tree to Officer Mast, a former student of Mabel, and placed a memorial plaque in his honor next to the tree. Connecting the Pieces a Gala for Autism

Appalachian State students will host a Gala for Autism to raise awareness and funds for Autism Speaks, North America’s largest autism science and advocacy organization.
