An Ashe woman managed to escape her burning home before dawn this morning after a sound woke her, a sound also heard by neighbors who called in the fire.  Arriving firefighters from the Glendale Springs Fire Department found the home fully involved in flames, according to Chief Greg Chatham, who said Coleen Bowers was a bit smoky, but otherwise was unharmed by the fire. The call came in at about 5:30 this morning to the home at 2074 Burgess Road off of NC 16 South of Glendale Springs, with Glendale, Jefferson, Laurel Springs and New River departments all called to the scene.  It was two hours later before the fire was declared under control, but the Ashe Fire Marshal said the home was a total loss.  Chatham said the Red Cross was working to help Coleen Bowers who has a sister near-by to live with in the short term.  The cause of the fire is still being determined, according to fire investigators.
