US Forest Service to Burn 2,365 Acres

This may be a day of area fire departments chasing smoke reports as the U.S. Forest Service plans to conduct a prescribed burn in the Grandfather Ranger District of the Pisgah National Forest today. High Country Housing Sales Strong for 2014

There’s more good economic news to start of the new year for local Realtors®, with home sales hitting a six-year high. There were 163 Realtor®-assisted sales recorded in the first two months of 2014, an increase of 11 percent over  2013, and up 36 percent compared to 2012. Full Story

 
Watauga Culinary Team Goes to Nationals

Culinary students from Watauga High won the Management part of the N.C. Hospitality Education Foundation and N.C. Restaurant & Lodging Association’s inaugural N.C. Watauga County ranks the second healthiest in NC, according to the fifth annual County Health Rankings, released today by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute (UWPHI). First Snow of Spring Closes Schools, Roads

Two Hurt, Traffic Snarled in NC 105 Wreck

A two-vehicle wreck tied up ‘going home’ traffic on NC 105 late this afternoon, with two injuries reported.  The crash occurred just before 5pm  just north of the NC 105 bypass intersection in front of New River Building Supply, a white van and a silver-blue sedan colliding front-to-front.  Watauga Medics Full Story

 
New Hangar, New Jobs for Samaritan's Purse

Samaritan’s Purse is adding to its disaster relief operations in Wilkes County, and bringing some new jobs to the county in the process.  The Boone-based charity is buying a 19,738-square-foot hangar at the Wilkes County Airport from Raleigh-based Capital Bank, according to their press release, Full Story

Boomerang...Joblessness Jumps in January
