A tractor-trailer truck overturned Friday on Highway 421 South of Deep Gap.

The Watauga Democrat reports the accident happened around 12:30 Friday afternoon July 14th, near the intersection of Patton Ridge Road.

According to the report, Trooper M.A. Fleming said a witness was passed by the truck and saw smoke coming from its wheels. The tractor-trailer then overturned and slid across the highway on its side, blocking all four lanes of traffic.

Passenger vehicles were detoured around the accident and larger trucks and RVs were stopped at Stony Fork Road. Traffic was impacted for hours as the accident was cleared.

No one was injured in the accident.

The driver, Javier Mendez Martinez, age 51, of Miami, was the owner and operator of the truck and was a contractor for Logway Transport of Dade City, Fla. He was traveling to Wilkesboro at the time.

Martinez was cited with driving left of center and inadequate brakes.
