The Avery County Historical Museum is now home to four original costumes worn by actors during the early days of the Land Of Oz theme park at Beech Mountain.

According to the Watauga Democrat, the cowardly lion, the tin man, the scarecrow costumes and Dorothy’s blue gingham dress, were donated to the Museum by  Billy Ferguson and David Spurgeon.

The Avery County Historical Museum is located in the old jail house and is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
