The Boone Police Department has made an arrest in an armed robbery case.
On January 25, at approximately 9:00 am, an armed robbery was reported at Stoneybrook Court in Boone. The victim reported he had been robbed by a masked man with a gun, who forced his way into the victim’s apartment and took the victim’s wallet before fleeing the scene. Officers responded to the scene quickly but were unable to locate the suspect. The area of the crime was processed and several items of evidence were collected including latent shoeprints, possibly belonging to the suspect.
On Friday, February 10, a Boone Police Officer stopped a motorist for a traffic violation. The driver was identified as Jalen Raynard Smith, age 21 of Boone, who was found to have outstanding arrest warrants for failure to appear in court in Cabarrus County. Smith was arrested for the outstanding warrants and a search of his car discovered approximately (2) ounces of marijuana, (30) dosage units of a schedule II controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, (3) firearms and a large amount of cash. Detectives were called to assist and evidence of the armed robbery was found inside Smith’s vehicle.
Detectives were granted a search warrant for Smith’s residence and more evidence of the armed robbery was discovered, as well as, another (5) ounces of marijuana, nearly a pound of Butane Hash Oil (BHO), and more drug paraphernalia.
Jalen Raynard Smith has been charged with one count each of Felony Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Felony Possession with the Intent to Sell Schedule II Controlled Substance, Felony Possession with the Intent to Sell Schedule VI Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and with three counts of Failure to Appear in Court.
