Banner Elk cleaning sewers- thanks to Beech PDF Print

In accordance with state guidelines, Banner Elk Public Works is busy cleaning sewer lines this week- with a little help from the town of Beech Mountain.

According to Banner Elk Public Works Director Danny Clark, Beech Mountain is allowing his department to lease its new vacuum truck- a move that could be saving Banner Elk the $280,000 it would cost to purchase the vehicle.

North Carolina mandates that each town clean ten percent of its sewer lines each year. Without a vacuum truck to suck out debris, Public Works employees must physically enter manholes. The longer process exposes employees to many hazards, Clark says. The truck makes the process simpler and safer, he says. Clark called Beech’s generosity “innovative.” Public Works employees will be working with the vacuum truck on Highway 184 this week.
