A weekend drug bust at Gusher’s Knob near Three Mile Highway in Avery County yielded 7 ½ ounces of marijuana.
Avery deputies responded to a suspicious vehicle parked on posted land. The vehicle’s occupants consented to a search- and deputies found marijuana, rolling papers, a pipe and $309. 33-year-old Jay L. Hughes and 31-year-old David Sparks, both of Avery County, were charged with felony possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, felony possession with intent to sell, manufacture and deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and second-degree trespassing. A third party was also in the vehicle, but was only served a citation.
