Senate approves motorcycle helmet changes PDF Print

A new bill approved by the state Senate would require motorcyclists to wear safety helmets that meet federal standards.

 While current law requires riders to wear a helmet type approved by the Division of Motor Vehicles commissioner, many fear it’s not enough in the event of an accident. The upgrade could cost riders hundreds of dollars- but it would be worth it in the end, lawmakers hope. The bill passed on a narrow 27-22 vote. The bill’s next stop is the full House.
