Prosecutors say Black received $500,000 from lobbyist PDF Print

According to federal prosecutors, former House Speaker Jim Black received $500,000 from an unidentified lobbyist for his 2000 campaign. Prosecutors say this is a violation of state election laws. The accusation came out earlier this week and alleged Black received the check in June of 2000. The money was deposited directly into his campaign account. Black then wrote a check from his campaign account for the same amount back to the lobbyist. Prosecutors say Black soon made another $500,000 deposit into his campaign account, reporting it in his filings as a personal loan. In February, Black pleaded guilty to a felony charge for taking money from chiropractors while promoting their industry’s agenda in the General Assembly. Black is expected to be sentenced today in a federal court.
