Eye Solution linked to Infection PDF Print

An ongoing investigation confirms a “strong association” between the use of a particular contact lens solution and increased risk of a serious eye infection.
Acanthamoeba keratitis, or AK, is a rare, but serious infection of the cornea that can cause both scarring and blindness. The solution in question is Advanced Medical Optics Complete MoisturePlus Multi-Purpose Solution. Patients with AK were found more likely to report exclusively using the MoisturePlus solution. The investigation is ongoing- but currently evidence exists that says re-using contact lens solution, rubbing lenses during cleaning, and showering with lenses on increases the risk of eye infections in contact lens users.
