Elk Motel owner pleads to Commissioners PDF Print
Written by Lauren Ohnesorge

Elk Motel owner Floyd Garrison appealed to Commissioners last night- a first for Garrison.

He has never asked for help before, he says. A problem at the hotel leaves him with little choice.

That problem is his sewage system. In order to correct it, he needs to connect to Boone’s sewage line- which they will allow, if he can get Commissioners to raise one third of the money. The rest will come from fundraisers, according to Garrison.

The Motel is really a mission, Garrison said. Many of the people who end up at the Elk Motel have no other place to go. For three hundred dollars a month, people can live at the Motel- provided they get a job. Some people at the Motel do not fit into Hospitality House and other non-profit organizations, because of alcohol and other issues, Garrison said. The Motel assures that they have a home.

Legally, the Commission was not sure if it could fund the sewage connection. Attorney Tony Di Santi promised to study the issue and come up with an answer for the next meeting. Di Santi also promised to look into getting grants. Chairman Jim Deal assured Garrison that, whatever the outcome, commissioners understand his mission.
