Gary Triggs, defense attorney for Avery County murder suspect Gloria Hughes Estes, is scheduled to appear before the North Carolina Bar Association’s Disciplinary Hearing Commission on August 30 and 31.  Estes’ trial was granted a change of venue earlier this year and has been tentatively scheduled for the third week of August in the Mitchell County Courthouse. Triggs is facing five complaints and, if the Bar sees fit, could face sanctions such as admonishment or even disbarment. The North Carolina Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service are among those with complaints against Triggs. They allege Triggs withheld more than $100,000 from employee paychecks and failed to turn the money over to the IRS and NCDR.
