A Senate education committee agreed yesterday to a House bill that would push back the cutoff birth date to enter school by several weeks. The law now allows a child to enroll at the beginning of a school year if the child turns 5-years-old by October 16. The proposed bill would set the cutoff at August 31, narrowing the age of children whom teachers will instruct. The bill now goes to the full Senate.
