Globe Fire Destroys House, Burns Woods PDF Print

Fire units from three counties—Avery, Watauga and Caldwell—were dispatched yesterday morning to a fire rapidly spreading from a residence, said to be fully involved, into woods and toward at least one other structure.  The fire was reported at 7:10am by a neighbor to 45 Globe Road, several miles south of the Blue Ridge Parkway and US 221, saying the house, said to be a summer residence, was fully involved and that the fire was being driven across a field by winds toward another home. A second caller to Avery dispatch reported that someone had been staying at the residence recently, but it was apparently not occupied at the time of the fire. Arriving fire units reported the house destroyed and fire burning some 3 to 4 acres in the remote area, causing a call for Forest Service units from Caldwell and Avery. Fire units cleared the scene mid morning, but returned mid afternoon as heavy smoke was reported from the house site.
