More political intentions have been announced with still most of two months before filing begins.  The latest is Democrat Sue Counts of Boone,  announcing that she plans to run for the District 93N.C. House of seat, currently held by Jonathan Jordan of Ashe County. The representative serves Ashe and Watauga counties. Counts said in her release that she was interested in running "because I can no longer sit by and watch my beloved state wander down a path which is destroying the gains we have made in education, infrastructure, scientific research, job opportunities and environmental protections." Counts retired in 2008 as Watauga County Extension Director for the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service after serving since1993. In her statement Wednesday, she pledged to "reverse this appalling history or regression and oppression" created by Republicans in the General Assembly. The Feb. 10th opening of filing will come for numerous offices, including N.C. House and Senate, Watauga County sheriff, District Attorney, Watauga County Clerk of Court, Board of Commissioners and Board of Education. There are already a number of candidates who have made their intentions known in a number of races.
