A young girl apparently interrupted a break-in in progress in her grandmother’s home Wednesday afternoon, then locked herself in a bathroom to escape the suspect who then fled. It was just before 5pm that Wendy Houpe Vannoy reported the call from her granddaughter that she found a light-skinned black male inside the Brook Street Wilkesboro home and quickly locked herself away from the man. Arriving Wilkesboro Police were given a description of the suspect who was seen fleeing on River Street, and Vannoy determined that nothing had been taken in the incident as the suspect fled. So far, no arrest is reported.
