Boone, Watauga to Hold Joint Meeting on ETJ PDF Print
Written by Steve Frank

There was talk of more cooperation during the municipal election, and now that the election is over, the two current boards—Boone council and Watauga commissioners—boards that been in a number of disputes over the past two years, will finally hold a joint—and open—meeting, hoping to tackle one point of contention.  After the town of Boone’s rejecting of Watauga Commission appointments to the Extraterritorial Jurisdiction in a move commissioners criticized as not following State and Boone’s own ordinances, commissioners in October held a public hearing on the appointments rejected by Boone, but in doing so, called for a joint meeting to put the issue publically on the table.  That meeting is now set for November 20th at 6pm in the Boone Town Council chambers, according to a meeting notice sent out by Commission chair Nathan Miller. In recent meetings, Miller openly criticized the Boone Town Council on the issue for not informing the county when appointments were needed, leaving ETJ residents unrepresented for long stretches, then rejecting the very appointments that Boone passed along to the county.
