There will be a new ambulance service in Ashe County, that after county commissioners there voted to re-bid their existing contract, then awarded it to Craig Sullivan, owner of Watauga Medics.  Sullivan said that his new 6-year contract will start midyear in 2014, “I have to be up and running by June 30th of 2014, so I have a little time, but a lot of things to be done.” Sullivan said he has property selected in the middle of West Jefferson for the new Ashe Medics base, and he said that it should be good for all parties, “I think it’s going to be really good for both counties eventually because there will be more resources easily shared. Ashe will have its own thing and Watauga will have its own thing, but in the event of a disaster it will be more easily shared. I think it’s going to be good for both counties—I truly do or I wouldn’t have done it.”  Ashe has used two services of late, and commissioners wanted a consolidated service, and seemed to like the model in service in Watauga.
