Three vehicles were involved in an afternoon wreck that tied up US 321 near Aho road for several hours during the afternoon rush, causing some injuries.  The wreck occurred just before 4pm as a trailer carrying roof trusses detached from a pickup, the trailer striking a Toyota that was passing at the time, according to  State Patrol Trooper David Searcy. The car stopped facing south in the northbound lane where it was struck by the pickup that had been hauling the construction materials. The trailer continued on a distance, forcing a green van off of the road where it came to rest straddling a ditch. The Chevy driver, Cecil Pittman of Boone, was taken to Watauga Medical Center, where he was treated and released, while pickup driver, Kelly Ashworth of Georgia, and the Toyota driver, Glenda Christian of Lenoir, were not seriously injured, Searcy said. Kelly Ashworth was cited for failure to secure a load.
