CONNELLY SPRINGS (WKVS) The fire that killed two children in Connelly Springs yesterday morning started in the living room of the home. Reports state that an 11-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl died in the fire. 10 people in all were in the home that was shared by two brothers.
Jeremy Hudson was the homes owner and he and his family shared the upper floor. Terry Kincaid, who is Hudsons brother, and his family shared the bottom level. It was Hudsons two children that died in the fire. 8 other people had to be treated at Grace Hospital. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Fire departments from Burke and Catawba County responded to the fire as did the Burke County Sheriffs Department and North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
LENOIR (WJRI) Lenoir Police are investigating a case where a man was robbed of prescription medication. On Wednesday night the victim let the suspects into his home on Norwood Street before they assaulted him and took the medicine. He suffered minor injuries during the incident.Anyone with information in the case should contact the Lenoir Police Department at 828-757-2100.
MORGANTON (WKVS) A Morganton man was killed earlier this week after his moped collided with an SUV. 32-year-old Thomas Ray Hooiser was being taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte when he died. The accident occurred on Tuesday night at Highway 70, and London Street. Hooiser was said to be going eastbound and did not have his lights on. The driver of the SUV was cited for an unsafe movement. The case has been given to District Attorneys Office.
MORGANTON (WKVS) Another house fire in Burke County yesterday left a home heavily damaged. The home on Piney Rd. was left with extensive damage but no one was injured in that fire. The fire is said to have started around 6pm and firefighters were on the scene until around 9:30. The investigation into the fire continues.
LENOIR (WJRI) Lenoir Police are investigating a breaking and entering that occurred on Prospect St. this week. Sometime on Wednesday someone broke into the home and once inside they took nearly $1,000 in cash and $200 worth of jewelry. Anyone with information in the case should contact Lenoir Police.
CATAWBA COUNTY (WKVS) Two men wanted in Catawba County have been captured in other states. 60-year-old Bobby Ray Smith was wanted for two felony violations by a sex offender and habitual felon status. He was captured by US Marshalls in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The other man, 52-year-old Randy Harold Scronce was taken into custody in Kentucky. He was wanted by Catawba County officials for taking indecent liberties with a child in 2011. He was also captured by US Marshalls. Catawba County Sheriffs Officials worked closely with the Marshalls Office to capture these men.
NEWTON (WKVS) Newton Police arrested a man on drug charges. Joshua B. Wilkinson was stopped and arrested for driving with a revoked license. While officers were getting him ready for transport, they say they found prescription pills and drugs on him. Wilkinson was charged with felony trafficking heroin or opium derivative prescription medicines, 3 felony counts of possession of a schedule II controlled substance and felony possession of a schedule IV controlled substance. Wilkinson was jailed under a $25,000 bond.
MORGANTON (WKVS) A Connelly Springs man has been arrested on charges relating to stolen checks. 41-year-old Kevin Brian Wood has been charged with felony forgery, uttering, identity theft, and attempted obtaining property by false pretenses. The checks were taken on September 19th. Wood has been jailed under a $20,000 bond.
NEWTON (WKVS) A Hickory man has been convicted on drug charges. 29-year-old Elijah Stewart was convicted on felony possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felony selling cocaine and habitual felon status. Stewart was sentenced to between 6 and 8 years in prison.
