A motorcyclist was injured—thrown from his motorcycle as it exploded last night traveling NC 105.  The crash occurred near the Avery line as the cycle traveled south among other vehicles, according to Trevor Morris who was traveling with Amir Shariati when the cycle passed them in the four lane, “Instantaneously it caught fire—the bike blew up.” Shariati said he ran down the embankment to find the cyclist some 60 feet past the guardrail while Morris called 9-1-1.  Shariati said that the man was conscious and did not initially want medical attention, in spite of an obviously badly-broken leg. Trooper Alexander said he had no information on the man, who was airlifted to the Johnson City Medical Center by WINGS Air Rescue, and that the cycle was so heavily damaged, obtaining information from that was nearly impossible, and his investigation continues today. Foscoe Fire/First Responders put out the fire at the cycle and dealt with the injured man and traffic for quite a while as other units set up the landing zone along NC 105 near Shulls Mill.
