An 80-year old man and a 22-year old woman were found safe mid-day Wednesday after being reported as missing overnight. The two took a hike into the Linville Gorge late Tuesday, but as darkness fell, the 22-year olds mother, who stayed at a resting spot while the elderly man and the younger woman hiked into the Upper Creek Falls area, called authorities.  She told authorities she had fallen asleep, according to Burke dispatch, and when she woke, it was nearly dark and neither had returned.  The mother called for help around 8:45, and a search was launched, with a crew out of Avery and other counties responding  to the staging area in the parking lot of Upper Creek Falls.
