Deputies arrested a woman and charged her with Tuesday’s homicide in Lenoir. Police said Cynthia Chisholm shot her former boyfriend Steve Patterson who jumped into is SUV and crashed into a ditch.
Investigators believe the shooting happened in front of the home the two shared just south of Lenoir. Patterson tried to drive off in an SUV after being hit in the leg only to crash a half mile away. Neighbor Andrea Ferguson saw the crash after she heard the single shot Tuesday morning. The victim’s mother, Paula Dula, said her son was shot in the leg, and was unable to drive himself to the hospital. He passed out and crashed the SUV.  He died a short time later at the hospital. In her first court appearance Wednesday, Chilsholm asked for a court-appointed attorney.
