Area Rescue Personnel Aid Body Retrieval PDF Print

Searchers from area rescue squads joined Burke County authorities at a site off of NC 181 early yesterday to help retrieve a body.  There are few details about the incident, only that Burke County investigators a drowning in Steele Creek. The forest service told Burke officials they pulled the body out of the water near Highway 181 at Steele Creek Falls, saying only that  someone fell in and drowned. Investigators have not released information about the victim, and only said that rescuers were needed to help with the effort, expected to take some time. Indeed, it was late in the day before local rescue squads reported back in service after the effort. The call went out at about dawn yesterday morning for help in the body retrieval inside Burke County south of the Avery line.
