Even More Snowin' & Blowin'-Treacherous Travel PDF Print

Travel troubles in the blast of snowy weather seem to be particularly vexing for tractor trailer drivers.  Reports just before dawn indicated two trucks were stuck on the NC 105 climb near Smoketree Lodge, one jackknifed, the other trying to back down the hill after not being able to make it to the top.  Then another tractor trailer became stuck in the switchback on Wilson Ridge off Bamboo.  Even with the amount of snow we’re getting, it would appear fortunate that we’re on the ‘back’ side of what weather radar shows as a snow hurricane; a huge spinning low pressure that passed just north of us overnight.  The storm has and will continue to bring us snow today, but on the eastern side of the storm, moisture from the Atlantic is being drawn in, clobbering areas north and east of us in Virginia, stretching up the I-95 corridor and into DC, Philadelphia, New York and points north.  But for us, the BREMCO outage map was clear overnight in spite of winds accompanying the snow, and High Country dispatchers reported no trees in the road overnight. But the word is—caution—and if you don’t have to go—don’t.
