Two fires in the heavy snowstorm yesterday morning damaged structures in the area.  The first was a 4:40am fire alarm at a property at 3600 Heavenly Mountain Drive, Boone Fire units arriving at the property to discover a well house was on fire. With the ice and snow, access to the structure proved to be difficult, but once access was gained, the knock-down of the fire was swift.  Boone Chief Jimmy Isaacs said that, although it was clear the fire was electrical in nature, the cause was not determined, but he estimated $30 to $40,000 damage to the structure and equipment.

Blowing Rock Fire was called to a Wonderland Trail home after resident found smoke coming from a switch.  Fire officials said that the three people evacuated with their 4 dogs as they called 9-1-1 just before 8am.  Blowing Rock Fire managed to knock down the fire in short order after cutting into the wall, and again, it was electrical in nature, but the exact cause was not evident.  Damage was held to the area of wall where the smoke was spotted.  Blowing Rock Fire officials praised the actions of the folks there, getting out of the structure in spite of the cold and snow.
