Five air-conditioning units have been installed in the
Yadkin County jail, allowing it to reopen.
The jail had been closed since
August 10 after temperatures inside reached the 90s. 38 inmates had been
transported temporarily to jails in Watauga, Davie and Rutherford counties.
Yadkin footed the bill, however, paying $45 a day for each inmate housed in
other facilities. Yadkin County plans to build a new $7.5 million dollar jail-
but in the meantime, most of the prisoners are back in the old building.
