Proud as a Peacock PDF Print

Appalachian State University Chancellor Kenneth Peacock is still basking in the glow of Mountaineer’s Saturday victory over Michigan.

Proud as a Peacock"I knew it was going to be big, it had to be big, but I actually underestimated. I didn't know it would be this big, in terms of publicity," Peacock said.

The media attention is educating America, Peacock says.

"We are on the map, and they know Appalachian, and they're saying it correctly, and they know where we are located."

Mountaineer fans were so excited post-game that the goal post was torn down and delivered to Peacock’s residence. It was quite a hassle, Peacock said, to transport the post back to Kidd Brewer Stadium Sunday. The post had to be disassembled to fit in a pickup truck. Despite the trouble, Peacock doesn’t regret his temporary lawn ornament.

"It was the nicest present I've received in a long time," he said.

Peacock anticipates more freshman applications than ever for Appalachian State University next year.

In the meantime, the Mountaineers are getting back to their normal routine says Coach Jerry Moore.

"We got the Michigan game out of our system for good. We're really concentrating hard on Lenoir Rhyne," he said yesterday after practice.

Saturday marks the home game opener against Lenoir Rhyne College.
